2.0L Crankshaft Rear Retainer & Oil Seal

OEM-equivalent crankshaft rear seal assembly for Land Rover Freelander 2, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport, and Discovery Sport.

2.0L 16V Petrol 2008–2022 Metal & Elastomer Direct Fit OEM LR041955

Overview

The Freelander 2, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport, and Discovery Sport all rely on a precision-engineered crankshaft rear seal to contain engine oil and maintain system integrity. Over time—especially in high-mileage vehicles or those subject to aggressive driving—the factory seal can degrade, leading to slow leaks, oil loss, and potential engine damage.

This crankshaft rear retainer and oil seal assembly is engineered to OEM Partsmost specifications, matching the exact geometry and material composition of the original Land Rover component (LR041955 / LR162092). It's a direct bolt-on replacement that requires no modification to your engine bay and restores proper oil containment immediately upon installation.

Whether you're addressing a known leak or performing preventative maintenance as part of a larger engine service, this seal is essential to protecting your powertrain investment.

Confirm your part number before purchase. Check your existing seal housing or consult your owner's manual for engine variant. If unsure, contact our team with your VIN—we'll verify fitment at no charge.

Installation

Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Time: 1.5–2.5 Hours

  1. Prepare engine bay. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. If necessary, remove any components obstructing access to the rear crankshaft (coolant overflow, intake ducting).
  2. Drain engine oil. Position a drain pan beneath the engine. Remove the oil drain plug and allow oil to drain fully. Replace the drain plug and torque to 25 Nm.
  3. Remove transmission or flywheel housing as needed. On some configurations, partial transmission removal or access cover removal may be necessary. Consult your model-specific service manual.
  4. Remove old seal retainer. Unbolt the existing crankshaft rear retainer (typically 4–6 bolts, 10 Nm each). Carefully pry and separate from the crankshaft flange using a soft plastic tool—do not damage the crankshaft surface.
  5. Clean crankshaft surface. Wipe the rear crankshaft flange with a lint-free cloth. Remove any old gasket material or sealant. Inspect for scoring or damage; if crankshaft is damaged, it must be replaced.
  6. Install new seal retainer. Apply a thin bead of OEM engine sealant around the flange mounting surface. Position the new retainer and insert bolts. Torque in a star pattern to 10 Nm.
  7. Refill engine oil. Add the correct grade and volume of oil per your owner's manual. Check dipstick and adjust as needed.
  8. Run and inspect. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2–3 minutes. Turn off and wait 5 minutes. Check oil level and inspect the rear seal area for weeping. If dry, installation is complete.
⚠️ Safety Note: Work only on a level, well-ventilated surface. Allow the engine to cool before beginning. Dispose of used oil responsibly at an authorized recycling center. Do not reuse the old seal gasket. If you lack mechanical experience or specialized tools (torque wrench, seal removal tool), consult a qualified Land Rover technician.
