Installation Notes

Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 2–4 hours (both pulleys)

  1. Drain and disconnect: Relieve engine pressure, disconnect battery, remove auxiliary components to access timing cover.
  2. Remove cover bolts: Unbolt and carefully lift timing cover. Note gasket condition for reuse or replacement.
  3. Locate idler pulleys: Front idlers are positioned along the timing belt run. Mark belt direction with tape or marker.
  4. Unbolt old pulleys: Use appropriately-sized socket or wrench. Pulleys may be tight; apply penetrant if needed.
  5. Install new pulleys: Fit new OEM units into mounting brackets. Align bearing bores and hand-tighten bolts first.
  6. Torque to spec: Tighten to Land Rover / Jaguar factory specification (typically 18–24 Nm for idler pivot bolts). Do not over-torque.
  7. Tension check: Verify belt tension with a tension gauge (if equipped) or by the deflection method per manual.
  8. Reassemble: Replace gasket or O-ring, reinstall timing cover, bolt down, and reconnect battery and accessories.
  9. Start and test: Run engine at idle, listen for abnormal noise, check for leaks. Road test at low speed before full use.
