Overview
The secondary drive belt is the unsung backbone of your Range Rover or Discovery's engine compartment. Running your water pump, alternator, power steering pump, and air compressor, this serpentine belt endures constant heat, tension, and flexing—making it one of the most critical yet easily overlooked maintenance items.
This Partsmost replacement belt meets original Land Rover specifications (LR071040 / JDE37859) and fits all petrol models from the Discovery LR4 (2010–) through the latest Defender 2020–. Whether you're running a 3.0L V6 or 5.0L V8, this belt is engineered to deliver the exact tension, flexibility, and durability your engine expects.
Symptoms of belt failure—squealing on cold starts, slipping, or sudden loss of alternator output—demand immediate replacement. Don't risk being stranded. Install this belt now and reclaim reliable charging, cooling, and power steering performance.

Installation Notes
Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1–2 Hours
-
Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental short circuits during work.
-
Remove the plastic engine cover (if equipped) to access the belt and tensioner.
-
Photograph the belt routing diagram clearly before removal—located on the fan shroud or intake manifold.
-
Release tension by rotating the spring-loaded tensioner (usually 15mm bolt) counterclockwise with a wrench.
-
Slide off the old belt from all pulleys: crankshaft, water pump, alternator, power steering pump, air compressor.
-
Inspect all pulley surfaces for cracks, glazing, or misalignment. Replace damaged pulleys to prevent premature belt wear.
-
Route the new belt exactly as photographed, starting at the crankshaft and moving counterclockwise around each pulley.
-
Rotate tensioner back to allow slack, then slide the belt fully onto the final pulleys.
-
Release the tensioner slowly so it springs back to proper tension automatically.
-
Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and listen for squealing (indicating improper routing or tension).
-
Run for 5 minutes and recheck belt alignment and tension with a visual inspection.
⚠ Warning: Ensure all pulleys (especially the crankshaft damper) are spinning freely without wobbling. A misaligned crankshaft dampener will destroy a new belt in minutes. If you detect any unusual vibration or squealing after installation, stop the engine immediately and recheck belt routing.
