Tools Required: Transmission jack, pan gasket scraper, torque wrench, T-handle socket set, OEM transmission fluid
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Support the vehicle safely on a lift.
- Remove the transmission undertray and drain the transmission fluid into a clean container.
- Remove the transmission pan bolts carefully and lower the pan. Drain any remaining fluid.
- Locate both differential bearing seal positions on the transmission case. Use a seal puller or small lever to remove the old seals carefully without scratching the bore.
- Clean the seal bores thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. Inspect the bore surfaces for scoring or damage.
- Install the new OEM seals by hand first, then use a seal driver tool to seat them evenly and squarely. Do not force them.
- Reinstall the transmission pan with a new gasket. Torque all pan bolts to specification in a star pattern.
- Refill the transmission with the correct OEM fluid grade (ZF LifeguardFluid 8/9 or equivalent). Check fluid level with the engine running at idle in Park.
- Test-drive the vehicle and recheck fluid level after 10 miles of varied driving. Top up if necessary.
