Overview
The oil cooler gasket is a critical sealing component in Land Rover and Range Rover cooling systems. It sits between the oil cooler and engine block, preventing pressurized oil leakage during operation. Over time, thermal cycling causes the factory rubber gasket to harden, crack, and weep—leading to loss of oil pressure, coolant contamination, and potential engine damage.

Installation

Safety first: Allow engine to cool completely. Disconnect negative battery terminal.

Drain coolant: Open radiator drain plug (lower passenger side). Catch in approved container. Do not reuse.

Remove old gasket: Unbolt the oil cooler assembly (3–4 bolts). Carefully pry away from engine block using a plastic spoon. Remove old gasket and clean mating surfaces with lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.

Install new gasket: Position new gasket on engine block mating surface. Align oil cooler mounting holes. Insert bolts hand-tight first.

Torque fasteners: Using the included card as reference, torque bolts to 25–28 Nm in a criss-cross pattern. Do not over-tighten.

Refill coolant: Fill radiator with fresh Land Rover Coolant (Motorcraft red, 50:50 mix). Bleed air from system by running engine at idle for 5 minutes with heater on.

Check pressure: Once cooled, pressure-test the cooling system to 1.4 bar. Monitor for leaks over first 30 minutes of running.

Reconnect battery: Reconnect negative terminal and start engine. Check for fault codes.
Disposal note: Used coolant is toxic. Take to a licensed waste facility or authorized Land Rover dealer. Never pour down drains.
