Overview
The radiator expansion tank lid is one of the most overlooked yet critical cooling system components. This OEM-specification 140kPa pressure cap maintains coolant integrity and engine temperature regulation across Range Rover Sport L494/L461, Discovery 4/5, Velar, and Jaguar XF/XJ/XK models from 2006 onward.
A failing or missing expansion tank lid forces your cooling system to work harder, risking overheating, coolant loss, and potential engine damage. This Partsmost unit delivers exact OE performance—precision-engineered to original Land Rover and Jaguar specifications with integrated pressure relief and anti-siphon functionality.
Whether you're replacing a cracked cap, lost seal, or upgrading after years of service, this direct-fit replacement installs in seconds and restores full system reliability. Backed by a 12-month warranty and tested across diesel and petrol engines.

Installation
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Time: 5–10 minutes
-
Cool the engine. Allow at least 30 minutes for the cooling system to drop to ambient temperature. Do not remove the cap while the engine or coolant is hot.
-
Locate the expansion tank. It's mounted vertically on the driver-side engine bay (Range Rover/Jaguar) or co-pilot side (Discovery). Look for a translucent or semi-opaque plastic reservoir with coolant level markers.
-
Remove the old lid. Rotate the cap counterclockwise (typically 1–2 full turns) until it lifts free. Set aside the old gasket or sealing ring.
-
Inspect the tank opening. Wipe away any debris, old gasket material, or coolant residue using a clean lint-free cloth. Ensure the seating surface is dry and smooth.
-
Install the new lid. Place the new expansion tank cap directly onto the opening. Align the vent holes (if present) with the tank's vent passage. Rotate clockwise until hand-tight—you should feel a slight resistance as the internal seal engages.
-
Verify the fit. The cap should sit flush with no rocking or tilting. Do not overtighten—hand-tight is sufficient and prevents seal damage.
-
Check coolant level. With the engine cold, inspect the translucent tank for coolant level between the MIN and MAX markers. Top up with the vehicle's original coolant type if needed (consult your owner's manual for the correct specification).
-
Start and monitor. Start the engine and let it idle for 2–3 minutes. Listen for any hissing or bubbling from the expansion tank area. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool for 10 minutes, then recheck coolant level.
⚠️ Safety Note: Never open the expansion tank cap while the engine is running or still warm. Hot coolant and steam can cause severe burns. If the cooling system has been recently operated, wait at least 30 minutes for the coolant temperature to drop safely. If you're uncomfortable working with pressurized cooling systems, consult a Land Rover or Jaguar specialist.
Ready to Restore Your Cooling System?
