Installation Notes

Disconnect battery negative terminal to prevent accidental starter engagement.

Drain coolant partially to access tensioner mounting bolts safely (or work around with care).

Release tensioner spring using a 13mm breaker bar on the tensioner bolt—hold pressure to slip belt free.
- Remove old belt, tensioner spring assembly, and guide pulley.

Inspect crankshaft, water pump, and alternator pulleys for damage or excessive wear. Clean debris.

Install new idler pulley and tighten fasteners to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).

Install new tensioner assembly and snug (do not over-torque—30 Nm / 22 lb-ft max).

Route new belt around all pulleys following the belt routing diagram on your Freelander 2 / Evoque radiator shroud or engine cover.

Release tensioner spring load smoothly to tension the belt automatically.

Verify belt tracking—no edge contact with pulley flanges. Run engine briefly and check for noise.
