Installation Notes
DIY Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45–60 minutes

Cool the engine. Allow at least 30 minutes after shutdown. The cooling system is under pressure when hot.

Locate the thermostat housing. On V6 and V8 engines, it sits on the front-right or front-center of the engine block, near the top.

Relieve coolant pressure. Use a coolant catch container. Some systems have a bleed screw on the housing; open it first.

Disconnect hose clamps. Use a screwdriver or hose clamp pliers. Mark clamp positions if reusing; note hose orientation.

Remove the old hose. Gently twist and pull to break any adhesion. Some coolant will spill; place the catch container underneath.

Clean the fittings. Wipe the thermostat outlet and water pump inlet with a lint-free cloth. Check O-rings; replace if hardened.

Install the new hose. Slide it over both fittings firmly. It should sit flush with no gaps. Reposition clamps to their original locations and tighten snugly—not over-tight.

Top up the coolant. Use Land Rover-spec coolant (usually pink or green, depending on your model). Fill to the cold-line on the overflow tank.

Bleed air. Run the engine at idle for 5 minutes with the expansion tank cap loose. You may see air bubbles; this is normal. Add coolant as needed.

Test. Check for leaks at both ends of the hose. The engine should reach normal operating temperature (around 90°C on the dash gauge) within 10 minutes.
⚠️ Warning: Never open the coolant system while the engine is hot. Pressurized coolant can cause severe burns. Allow minimum 30 minutes cool-down. If you lack confidence, have a Land Rover specialist perform the swap.
