Installation Notes

Disconnect battery. Locate negative terminal on battery and remove clamp. Allow engine to cool to ambient temperature.

Remove upper engine cover. Unclip plastic trim panels above serpentine belt to expose pulley system and routing diagram.

Release belt tension. Using a ½-inch breaker bar, rotate the automatic tensioner clockwise to decompress spring load. Slide worn belt free from all pulleys.

Remove idler and tensioner. Unbolt (typically two 13mm bolts each). Inspect mounting surfaces for corrosion; clean with wire brush if present.

Install new tensioner and idler. Hand-torque all fasteners first, then final-tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft-lb) using a calibrated torque wrench.

Route new serpentine belt. Begin at crankshaft pulley. Follow the routing diagram embossed on the engine cover or printed on your new belt. Ensure all serpentine teeth seat fully in each pulley groove.

Tension belt. Rotate tensioner clockwise to allow belt to settle. Release tension gradually—the spring will auto-adjust within 30 seconds.

Hand-check belt run. Rotate engine manually (wrench on crankshaft bolt) through two full revolutions. Belt should track straight with no binding or edge rub.

Start engine and listen. After cold start, you should hear smooth belt operation within 2–3 seconds. No squealing means correct tension.

Reconnect battery and clear any fault codes. If your vehicle logged a serpentine belt warning, use an OBD-II scanner to reset the diagnostic trouble code.
⚠️ Critical: Do not over-tension the belt. Over-tension accelerates bearing wear and can snap the belt under load. The automatic tensioner is calibrated at the factory; trust the spring action.
