Installation Notes
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Time: 1.5–2.5 hours
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal and allow engine to cool completely.
- Remove ignition coil packs and spark plug wires from the valve cover area.
- Unbolt valve cover (typically 6–8 bolts); carefully lift off and set aside on a clean work surface.
- Scrape away old gasket material using a plastic pry tool—do not gouge the aluminium head or cover.
- Clean the gasket sealing surface with isopropyl alcohol and allow to air-dry completely.
- Position new gasket onto the cylinder head; align bolt holes and install new bolts hand-tight.
- Tighten bolts in a crisscross pattern to 6–8 Nm (do not over-torque).
- Replace spark plug hole seals individually; ensure each is seated fully into its bore.
- Reinstall ignition components, reconnect battery, and test idle for leaks.
⚠ Important: Use only plastic or composite tools when scraping old gasket. Metal tools risk scoring the sealing surface and creating new leak paths. If metal damage is evident, the valve cover or head may require resurfacing by a specialist.
