Installation Notes

This is an engine-bay timing chain assembly replacement. We strongly recommend performing this work at a qualified Land Rover service centre or with an experienced technician. Improper installation, timing misalignment, or failure to verify crankshaft and camshaft TDC can result in catastrophic engine damage, voided warranty, and safety hazards.

Disconnect the battery. Disable electrical systems and allow the engine to cool completely.

Remove ancillary drive belts and accessories. Power steering pump, alternator, air conditioning compressor must be moved clear or removed.

Remove the timing cover. Factory sealant will require careful prying and scraping; use a plastic tool to avoid substrate damage.

Verify TDC on crank and both camshafts. Use factory timing marks and a dial indicator if available. Document witness marks with paint or marker.

Unbolt and remove old chains. Note the position of all guide arm fasteners and tensioner mounting points before removal.

Install new chains, guide arms, and tensioners. Follow the OEM sequence precisely: crank sprocket first, then both cam chains in order, then tensioner arms and hydraulic units.

Verify timing alignment. Rotate the crankshaft by hand twice and confirm camshaft position sensors read TDC again.

Apply new sealant to timing cover gasket. Use factory-specification RTV or gasket sealant rated for oil and coolant immersion.

Reinstall cover, reinstall accessories, reconnect battery. Start the engine and monitor oil pressure, temperature, and diagnostic codes for 10 minutes at idle.

Road test under light load. Listen for any chain rattle or valve noise. If detected, stop immediately and recheck timing.
