Installation Notes
Difficulty: Moderate | Time: 45–90 minutes
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to disable the alternator and prevent accidental shorting.
- Locate the serpentine belt routing diagram on the underside of the hood or in your owner's manual.
- Locate the belt tensioner (spring-loaded pulley). Insert a ratchet into the hex bolt and rotate to release tension.
- Remove the old belt by sliding it off the alternator, water pump, crankshaft, and idler pulleys.
- Inspect all pulleys for cracks, wear, or bearing noise. Replace any damaged pulleys before installing the new belt.
- Route the new Dayco belt following the diagram exactly—improper routing will cause misalignment and premature failure.
- While maintaining tensioner pressure, seat the belt around the crankshaft pulley first, then alternator, then remaining accessories.
- Release the tensioner slowly to engage the belt. The tensioner spring should seat evenly; listen for a soft click.
- Reconnect the battery terminal and start the engine. The belt should run smoothly and silently within 5 seconds.
⚠️ Critical: Do not operate the vehicle if the belt squeals continuously after installation. Stop immediately, re-check routing and tensioner alignment. A misaligned belt will fail within days.
