DOHC Timing Chain Tensioner & Guide Arm Kit – Discovery 4 | 3.0L / 5.0L

Complete OE-specification timing kit for Land Rover Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover 2010–2018. Restore original engine performance.

Discovery 4 LR4 Range Rover Sport Range Rover L405 3.0L V6 DOHC 5.0L V8 DOHC 2010–2018 Steel / Aluminium Direct OE Fit

The Discovery 4 Timing Chain System

Your Land Rover Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport, or Range Rover relies on a precision timing chain assembly to synchronise your 3.0L supercharged V6 or 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 engine. Over time—especially in higher-mileage examples—tensioner wear and guide arm flex compromise engine timing accuracy, leading to rough idle, power loss, and potential internal damage.

This complete OE-specification kit restores factory timing geometry across all critical points: the primary timing chain, dual tensioners, and both left and right guide arms. Whether you're rebuilding after 100,000 miles or preventing failure during a major service, this kit delivers genuine peace of mind.

Every component is manufactured to Land Rover tolerances and validated against original part numbers LR032048, LR051008, LR051011, LR051012, and LR051013. Install with confidence.

Installation Notes

⏱️ Difficulty: Advanced | Time: 4–6 hours

This is an engine bay job best suited to experienced DIY enthusiasts or professional technicians. Timing chain work requires precision and correct tool usage.

  1. Disconnect battery: Negative terminal first. Wait 10 minutes for system discharge.
  2. Remove engine covers: Plastic and metal covers blocking access to timing bay. Document bolt locations.
  3. Drain coolant (optional): If working near coolant passages, drain into a clean container for reuse.
  4. Mark timing: Use paint marker to identify crankshaft, camshaft, and auxiliary shaft positions. Take reference photos.
  5. Remove tensioner: Unbolt old tensioner assembly (OE LR051008). Note preload settings.
  6. Release chain tension: Support timing chain with a wire to prevent damage to adjacent components.
  7. Remove guide arms: Unbolt RH (LR051011) and LH (LR051012) guide arms from cylinder head. Clean mounting surfaces.
  8. Remove old timing chain: Carefully lift away primary chain (OE LR032048). Inspect sprockets for damage.
  9. Install new guide arms: Bolt RH and LH guide arms in place. Torque to manufacturer spec (typically 18–22 Nm).
  10. Route new chain: Align with crankshaft and camshaft sprockets using reference marks. Ensure slack is removed gradually.
  11. Install tensioner guide arms: Fit OE LR051013 components. Verify clearance to adjacent passages.
  12. Install new tensioner: Secure OE LR051008. Prime tensioner per manufacturer procedure to ensure oil flow.
  13. Verify timing: Rotate engine by hand (crankshaft pulley) 2–3 full turns. Check that camshafts track correctly with crankshaft.
  14. Reconnect systems: Refill coolant if drained. Reconnect battery negative terminal last.
  15. Test and bleed: Start engine, listen for timing noise. Run at idle for 5 minutes. Bleed any air from coolant system.
⚠️ Critical: Incorrect timing installation can cause catastrophic engine damage. If you are uncertain at any step, consult a qualified Land Rover technician or contact us for guidance. Do not force components into position.

Restore Timing Precision. Protect Your Engine.

A failing timing chain system doesn't announce itself loudly—it whispers through a rough idle, hesitant throttle response, and mounting dread in the engine bay. This OE-specification kit addresses the problem at its source, restoring the synchronisation your Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport, or Range Rover was engineered for.

Choose precision. Choose OE fitment. Choose proven compatibility across three decades of Land Rover engineering.
