Overview
The Land Rover Discovery 3, Discovery 4, and first-generation Range Rover Sport L320 all carry their spare tyre mounted beneath the rear load floor via a cable winch mechanism — a practical system that keeps the spare fully concealed and out of the way until it's needed. Over time, this winch assembly is subject to significant wear from weather exposure, corrosion, and regular use, and a failed or seized winch can leave you stranded on the side of the road unable to retrieve your spare at the worst possible moment.
This LR024145 spare tyre winch is the standard OE-specification replacement for all three platforms, manufactured to the same dimensions and material tolerances as the original Land Rover unit. The assembly utilises a robust steel construction finished in black, operating via the vehicle's existing cable and drop-rod mechanism to smoothly lower and raise the spare wheel carrier. This is the non-anti-theft variant — the earlier, simpler version designed for vehicles that did not leave the factory with the locking winch upgrade.
Whether you're rebuilding a high-mileage Discovery 3 or refreshing the underbody of a Range Rover Sport before a longer expedition, replacing an ageing winch mechanism is a straightforward job that restores peace of mind and ensures your spare is always accessible when you need it most. Cross-references LR010453 and KTI000017 for easy identification across supplier catalogues.

Installation Notes
Difficulty: Moderate · Estimated Time: 30–60 Minutes · Tools Required: Basic Hand Tools
- Open the rear tailgate and remove the load floor panel to access the spare tyre winch housing in the lower boot area.
- Using the vehicle's drop rod, fully lower the existing spare tyre and remove it from the carrier hook beneath the vehicle.
- Disconnect the winch cable from the carrier cradle and unclip any retaining hardware securing the cable to the chassis.
- Remove the winch assembly mounting bolts (typically two to three fasteners) and withdraw the old winch unit from its housing.
- Offer the new LR024145 winch into position, align with the OE mounting points, and torque the bolts to specification.
- Thread the new winch cable through the floor guide, attach the spare carrier, and test lowering and raising function before refitting the spare tyre.
- Refit the spare tyre securely, retest the winch operation, and reinstall the load floor panel.
⚠️ Note: Ensure the spare tyre is fully seated and locked in the raised position before driving. Do not operate the vehicle if the winch does not hold the spare securely at full height. If in doubt, have the installation inspected by a qualified technician.
