Radiator Coolant Hose Upper & Lower for Land Rover Freelander LR2 2008–2012

OE-quality replacement hoses engineered to restore optimal coolant flow and engine thermal management.

LR2 L359 2008–2012 3.2L Petrol Rubber Compound Upper & Lower Variants OE Direct Fit

Overview

The Freelander LR2 L359's cooling system demands precision engineering and robust materials to handle demanding terrain and variable climates. Over time, original radiator hoses degrade from engine heat, UV exposure, and pressure cycles, leading to leaks, reduced coolant circulation, and potential engine overheating—a costly failure on any Land Rover expedition.

This OE-quality replacement hose set (upper and lower) is manufactured to original equipment specifications using premium rubber compounds formulated to withstand high-temperature coolant flows, internal pressure, and environmental stress. Both hoses are direct replacements for factory originals, featuring identical fitment geometry and integrated connection points.

Restoring your LR2's cooling efficiency protects engine longevity, maintains consistent operating temperatures, and prevents catastrophic thermal damage—essential for reliability on and off-road.

Installation Notes

Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Time: 1.5–2 Hours

  1. Preparation: Allow engine to cool completely (minimum 2 hours). Disconnect negative battery terminal to disable electric coolant fans. Remove plastic engine cover if fitted.
  2. Drain Coolant: Position a drain pan beneath the radiator. Open the bleed screw on top of the thermostat housing and lower radiator drain plug. Allow full system drainage.
  3. Remove Upper Hose: Unclip two hose clamps (thermostat end and radiator inlet). Gently twist and withdraw hose. Inspect radiator and thermostat housing connections for debris or damage.
  4. Remove Lower Hose: Unclip radiator outlet clamp and water pump inlet clamp. Support radiator slightly if necessary for access. Remove hose.
  5. Install Lower Hose First: Slide new lower hose onto water pump return stub (inlet side). Secure with original hose clamp, positioning clamp band on reinforced section of hose. Tighten to hand-tight, then quarter-turn with screwdriver.
  6. Connect Radiator Outlet: Route hose along original path, insert into radiator lower tank connection, and secure second clamp. Ensure hose does not contact sharp edges or hot surfaces.
  7. Install Upper Hose: Connect thermostat outlet end first, then route hose to radiator top inlet. Secure both clamps using same technique (hand-tight + quarter-turn).
  8. Refill & Bleed: Close drain plugs and reconnect hose clamps. Pour OEM or equivalent long-life coolant into expansion reservoir to "cold" level mark. Start engine with heating set to maximum, and run until upper hose warms and thermostat opens (fan may cycle). Top up coolant as level drops. Repeat until level stabilises and no air pockets remain.
  9. Test Run: Run engine for 5 minutes in neutral. Check all hose connections, clamps, and floor beneath vehicle for leaks. Verify coolant level after cooling period (15 minutes).
  10. Final Check: Refit engine cover. Reconnect battery. Perform a short test drive and re-inspect connections upon return.
⚠️ Coolant Safety: Never open coolant system on a hot engine—internal pressure can cause severe scalding. Always work with a fully cooled system. Use only approved automotive coolant; mixing coolant types or using water alone will compromise thermal performance and accelerate component corrosion. Dispose of old coolant responsibly at a certified recycling facility; do not pour down drains.
