- Ensure the vehicle is parked, the engine is off, and the gear selector is in Park (P). Allow any heated surfaces to cool before handling.
- Gently remove any existing gear lever surround trim by applying light, even upward pressure from the base — the factory piece releases without clips on most L460/L461 configurations.
- Align the Alcantara suede gear cover with the selector base, ensuring the orientation matches the interior geometry (note any directional grain or seam alignment).
- Apply even downward pressure around the perimeter of the cover, pressing firmly until all anchor points are fully seated and the cover sits flush with the surrounding trim.
- Run your finger around the entire edge to confirm there are no lifted sections or gaps. The cover should feel rigid and integrated once correctly installed.
- Avoid applying pressure to the Alcantara surface itself during installation — handle from the underside or edges to preserve the suede texture.
⚠ Important: Confirm your exact model code (L460 or L461) and model year before ordering. While the interior platform is shared across trim levels within each model, earlier-generation vehicles (L405, L494) use a different gear selector housing geometry and this cover will not fit.
