Installation Notes
Spark Plug Replacement – 6-Cylinder Engine
Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 60–90 minutes | Tools: Spark plug socket, ratchet wrench, feeler gauge, dielectric grease
- Allow engine to cool completely. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Remove coil pack covers or air intake manifold to expose spark plug wells.
- Disconnect coil packs or HT leads one at a time, marking each cylinder number clearly.
- Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to unscrew old plugs; remove carefully to avoid debris falling into cylinders.
- Inspect each hole for carbon or water contamination; wipe with a clean, dry cloth if needed.
- Check gap on new plugs (should be pre-set to ~1.1mm); adjust only if required using a feeler gauge.
- Apply a light coat of dielectric grease to the coil pack contact surfaces (not the plug electrode).
- Install new plugs hand-tight first, then torque to 20–25 Nm using a calibrated wrench.
- Reconnect coil packs or HT leads in reverse order, ensuring firm seating and correct cylinder alignment.
- Reattach air intake and coil covers; reconnect battery terminal.
- Start engine and check for misfires or warning lights; clear any diagnostic codes if necessary.
⚠ Important: Do not force coil packs or HT leads. If resistance is high, apply slight penetrating oil around the boot and wait 10 minutes before gently twisting. Forcing can damage the boot and ignition system. If unsure, consult a qualified technician.
