Overview
The 4.4-litre naturally aspirated AJ V8 engine that powers early-generation Range Rovers (2002–2009), the Land Rover Discovery 3 (LR3, 2005–2009), and first-run Range Rover Sport models (2005–2009) is a masterpiece of engineering—but like all serpentine belt systems, it relies on two critical rubber components to function. This factory-specification belt kit supplies both primary and secondary serpentine drives, engineered to OEM dimensions and performance standards for direct drop-in installation.
Over time, the continuous rotation cycles of the V8's accessory drives cause belt material to harden, crack, and fray. A worn belt doesn't just reduce charging efficiency; it can slip under load, starving your alternator and power steering pump of drive power—and a complete belt failure mid-journey leaves you stranded. This complete two-belt set restores full accessory drive reliability, matching Land Rover's original specification for fitment assurance and longevity.
Built to the exact profile, width, and tooth pitch as the original equipment, both belts integrate seamlessly with your Range Rover's stock pulley arrangement, eliminating the risk of misalignment, slippage, or premature wear. Whether you're servicing a high-mileage classic or preventatively upgrading before a major expedition, this belt kit delivers the redundancy and confidence your V8 deserves.

Installation Notes
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Est. Time: 45–90 minutes
-
Disconnect the negative battery terminal to disable the engine control module and prevent accidental ignition.
-
Locate the drive belt tensioner on the driver's side of the engine bay. It's spring-loaded and holds tension on the primary belt.
-
Use a ½-inch breaker bar or socket wrench to rotate the tensioner counterclockwise, releasing tension on the primary belt.
-
Slide the worn primary belt off all pulleys (alternator, water pump, power steering pump, crankshaft).
-
Inspect all pulleys for debris, cracks, or glazing. Clean if necessary; replace if damaged.
-
Route the new primary belt following the belt routing diagram under the hood or in your owner's manual. Ensure it seats fully in each pulley groove.
-
Release the tensioner to apply automatic spring tension. The belt should sit snugly without slack.
-
Repeat steps 2–7 for the secondary belt, which typically runs the air-conditioning compressor and alternator auxiliary circuits.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
-
Start the engine and listen for unusual squealing or grinding. Run at idle for 2–3 minutes, then shut down and recheck tension after cool-down.
Important: Do not operate the engine with a loose or misaligned belt. Slippage can damage both the belt and pulley grooves, requiring costlier repair. If you are unfamiliar with serpentine belt replacement, consult a qualified technician.
