Installation Notes
Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1–1.5 hours (with jack stands)
- Safely raise vehicle on jack stands and remove the wheel well splash guard to access the crankshaft pulley.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental starter engagement.
- Locate the crankshaft bolt (typically 17mm or 19mm socket, depending on model). Use a breaker bar or impact wrench and a rag-wrapped block to hold the pulley steady.
- Remove the old pulley carefully – do not allow it to spin freely or damage the crank keyway.
- Clean the crankshaft nose and keyway thoroughly with a wire brush; remove any corrosion or residue.
- Slide the new pulley onto the crankshaft, ensuring the keyway aligns correctly. Apply a light coating of anti-seize compound to the bolt.
- Torque the crankshaft bolt to OEM specification (typically 95–110 Nm / 70–81 ft-lb for 2.0L engines). Double-check with a calibrated torque wrench.
- Rotate the crankshaft by hand 2–3 full revolutions to verify the pulley spins freely and does not contact adjacent components.
- Reinstall the splash guard, reconnect the battery, and lower the vehicle.
- Start the engine and listen for any unusual noise or vibration. Allow it to idle for 2–3 minutes before driving.
⚠️ Critical: Do not over-torque the crankshaft bolt – this will damage the crankshaft threads and destroy the pulley damper. Use a calibrated torque wrench, not impact tools for final tightening. If you're unsure, consult a qualified technician or call us.
