Installation Notes
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Time: 1.5–2.5 Hours
- Allow engine to cool completely before beginning work.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Drain engine coolant into a suitable container (approximately 2–3 litres).
- Locate the oil cooler beneath the engine bay. It's mounted on the lower driver's side of the engine block.
- Disconnect the coolant inlet and outlet hoses using appropriate spanners. Plug openings to prevent contamination.
- Remove the mounting bolts (typically 2–3 fasteners) securing the cooler to the engine block.
- Carefully withdraw the old cooler and inspect the mounting surface for corrosion or debris.
- Clean the mounting surface with a lint-free cloth.
- Position the new cooler and install mounting bolts finger-tight, then torque to factory spec (approximately 20–25 Nm).
- Reconnect coolant hoses with fresh clamps. Ensure connections are tight and secure.
- Refill coolant to the correct level using OEM Rover coolant (a 50/50 mix of concentrate and demineralised water is recommended).
- Bleed the cooling system by running the engine at idle with the heater on high for 3–5 minutes, then check for leaks.
- Reconnect the battery and perform a test run to confirm normal operation.
Important: Do not attempt this work if you are unfamiliar with coolant systems. Improper installation can lead to overheating and engine damage. If in doubt, consult a qualified Land Rover technician. Always dispose of old coolant responsibly at an approved waste facility.
