Installation Notes
Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1–2 hours
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal and allow the engine to cool to ambient temperature.
- Remove timing cover (inspect gasket condition; replace if cracked or hardened).
- Rotate engine to TDC (top dead centre) and lock in place using the timing peg if equipped.
- Remove the old camshaft sprocket actuator using a 24mm socket and breaker bar; note the orientation.
- Inspect the camshaft nose and sprocket drive surface for scoring or contamination; clean gently if needed.
- Install the new actuator, torque to 45–50 Nm in a smooth, controlled motion.
- Reassemble the timing cover with a fresh gasket; torque fasteners to 8–10 Nm.
- Reconnect battery, start engine, and allow 30 seconds for VVT system self-test.
- Clear any diagnostic codes using a code reader; idle should stabilise within one warm-up cycle.
Important: Do not over-torque the actuator or sprocket fastener—internal viscous coupling can be damaged. If hesitation or rough idle persists after installation, verify correct part position (intake vs. exhaust) and check the timing cover gasket seal.
