Overview
If you own a Range Rover, Discovery, or Range Rover Sport from the 2000s through early 2010s, or drive a compatible BMW X5, transmission reliability depends on one critical seal: the rear output shaft oil seal. This component sits at the junction between your automatic transmission and the transfer case or final drive, sealing in pressurised gear oil under constant thermal and mechanical stress.
A worn or failed seal allows transmission fluid to leak internally, leading to slippage, harsh shifts, loss of power, and catastrophic transmission damage. This OE-specification seal restores factory-grade sealing performance, stopping leaks before they escalate and protecting your transmission investment.
Sourced to exact OEM specifications and tested for fitment across multiple platforms, this seal delivers the reliability you expect from genuine engineering—at a fraction of main-dealer pricing. Installation is straightforward for experienced DIY technicians or professional workshops.

Installation Guide
Difficulty: Moderate | Time: 3–5 hours
-
Prepare. Lift vehicle on ramps or jack stands. Drain transmission fluid into a clean pan and keep for reuse or recycling. Support weight safely with additional stands.
-
Access transmission. Remove undertray, skid plates, and exhaust components as needed for your vehicle. Locate the rear output shaft housing at the transmission's rear face.
-
Remove old seal. Unbolt the output shaft flange or yoke. Carefully pry out the old seal using a seal puller or flat-head tool. Clean the bore thoroughly with solvent; allow to dry completely.
-
Install new seal. Lightly coat the new seal's outer edge with transmission fluid. Press the seal straight into the bore using a seal driver or appropriately sized socket. Ensure it seats fully and evenly.
-
Reassemble. Reinstall the output shaft flange, torque fasteners to factory specs, and refit all removed components. Refill with fresh transmission fluid and bleed as needed per your vehicle's procedure.
-
Test & check. Start the engine, run through all gears, and check for leaks at the seal location. Allow 15 minutes of idle time before final inspection.
⚠ Important: This seal carries high pressure under load. If you have limited transmission experience, have a qualified mechanic perform installation. Incorrect seating will cause immediate oil loss and transmission damage.
Ready to Stop Transmission Leaks?
A failed rear output seal is a slow-motion disaster for automatic transmissions. Replace it now with OE-spec confidence—before slippage, overheating, and internal damage force a full rebuild. Your Range Rover or Discovery deserves better.
