Windshield Washer Fluid Low Level Sensor – Discovery, Range Rover Sport & Evoque

Direct replacement sensor that restores warning system reliability across Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, and Jaguar models.

LR3 · LR4 · L320 · L494 2005–2023 Sensor · OEM Spec Drop-In Fit Direct Replacement

Overview

If your Discovery LR3, Discovery LR4, Range Rover Sport, or Range Rover Evoque's washer fluid warning light has stopped working—or worse, stays on permanently—the problem is almost certainly the windshield washer fluid low-level sensor. Over 15+ years of service, this sensor fails silently, leaving you either flying blind or ignored by an overactive dash light.

This is an OEM-specification replacement that restores the system to original factory reliability. It's engineered to the exact tolerances and materials Land Rover specified, meaning it integrates seamlessly with your vehicle's electronic control module without tuning or adaptation. No DIY surprises, no compatibility guessing—just the sensor your Range Rover or Discovery needs.

Fits Land Rover Discovery 3 (2005–2009), Discovery 4 (2010+), Range Rover Sport (2005–2009 L320 and 2013–2020 L494), Range Rover Evoque (2012+), Freelander LR2, Discovery Sport, and Jaguar F-Type and E-Pace models. We've verified part numbers against all major OEM references—this sensor is the real thing.

Installation Guide

Difficulty: Moderate | Time: 45–90 minutes

  1. Locate the washer fluid reservoir – Usually under the wheel arch or behind the bumper trim (varies by model). Consult your workshop manual for exact position.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal – Safety first. Wait 5 minutes for residual power to drain.
  3. Remove trim panels and access the reservoir – Some models require bumper removal. Clips and bolts are typically plastic or M6 steel.
  4. Unplug the old sensor connector – Two-pin or three-pin connector; note the orientation before disconnecting.
  5. Unscrew the sensor body – Usually 1–2 M10 bolts. Do not force; apply penetrating oil if corroded.
  6. Install new sensor – Insert into reservoir from above. Align the connector socket toward the loom. Hand-tighten bolts to 8–10 Nm.
  7. Reconnect the connector – Ensure it seats fully. Listen for a soft click.
  8. Reassemble trim and reconnect battery – Check that the washer warning light cycles correctly during the self-test (usually 30 seconds after start-up).
  9. Fill the washer reservoir – Verify the warning light turns off once fluid is above the sensor threshold.
⚠ Warning: Do not touch the sensor float mechanism—it is calibrated to OEM spec. Water ingress will cause immediate failure. If the sensor has been sitting in a damp garage, do not install it; request a replacement.
