Installation Notes
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Time Required: 45–90 minutes
-
Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 5 minutes for residual power to discharge.
-
Remove plastic engine cover (if fitted) and note the belt routing diagram on the underside.
-
Locate the serpentine belt tensioner (usually on the right side of the engine bay). Rotate it counter-clockwise using an appropriate hex socket or wrench to release tension.
-
Slip off the old belt carefully from all pulleys: crankshaft, alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and air conditioning compressor.
-
Inspect all pulley surfaces for cracks, fraying, or contamination. Clean with a dry cloth if necessary.
-
Route the new belt following the routing diagram exactly. Start at the crankshaft pulley and work systematically around the engine.
-
Rotate the tensioner counter-clockwise to create slack, then slip the belt onto the final pulley (typically the idler or alternator).
-
Release the tensioner slowly and verify the belt is centered on all pulleys and seated fully in each groove.
-
Reconnect the battery negative terminal and start the engine. Listen for any squealing or unusual noise for 30 seconds, then shut down.
-
Run the engine under light load (gentle acceleration) for 5–10 minutes to allow the belt to bed in.
⚠️ Important: Do not over-tension the belt. Excessive tension causes premature wear on bearings and can crack the tensioner. If you hear persistent squealing after installation, the belt may be under-tensioned. The tensioner spring should maintain correct tension automatically; never manually force additional pressure.
