Installation

Disconnect the battery (optional but recommended for safety)

Open the bonnet or tailgate fully and support it with a jack or prop rod

Locate the gas strut ball joint at the top of the strut (near the hinge)

Pry off the ball joint clip using a flat-head screwdriver; the clip will pop out

Slide the old strut free from the ball joint and hinge bracket

Insert the new gas strut into both the ball joint and hinge bracket

Reseat the clip firmly until it clicks; ensure both ends are fully engaged

Test the bonnet or tailgate motion; it should rise smoothly and hold position

Repeat for the second strut (most Freelanders require two per lid)
