Installation Notes

Disconnect battery negative terminal and allow engine to cool for 30+ minutes.

Remove radiator grille (if required) and locate the existing oil cooler beneath or beside the engine block.

Drain surplus engine oil into a container. Position a drip tray underneath the old cooler.

Disconnect inlet and outlet hoses from the old cooler. Note hose orientation with tape or marker.

Unbolt the existing cooler from its mounting bracket (typically 2–4 bolts, 10–13 mm socket).

Install the new cooler into the mounting bracket, ensuring the inlet (top) and outlet (bottom) align with hose connections.

Reconnect hoses to the new cooler using the same orientation. Hand-tighten hose clamps, then torque to 8–12 Nm.

Refill engine oil to the correct level on the dipstick or via iDrive menu (depending on model year).

Reconnect battery and start the engine. Allow to idle for 2–3 minutes, checking for leaks.

Clear any fault codes with an OBD diagnostic (optional; most systems will reset automatically).

Road test in gentle driving for 10 minutes to verify normal oil temperature (should stabilise within 90–110 °C).
⚠️ Important: Do not start the engine with disconnected hoses. Oil loss can cause bearing damage within seconds. Use OE or braided hoses rated for engine bay temperatures (120+ °C). If oil leaks during fitting, stop and re-tighten all connections before restarting.
