Overview
This is a direct-replacement radiator coolant overflow container engineered for Land Rover Freelander LR2, Range Rover Evoque, and Volvo S60/S80/V60/V70/XC60 models with 2.0–2.2L turbo-diesel engines. The tank manages coolant expansion under heat and pressure, maintaining optimal engine operating temperatures and protecting your cooling system from overpressure damage.
The expansion tank includes an integrated temperature sensor that feeds real-time coolant temperature data to your engine management system, allowing precise control of fan speed and thermostat response. The pressurised cap (LR000243) is engineered to release excess pressure safely when coolant expands, then reseal as the system cools.
Built to OEM specification with high-durability plastic construction and sealed sensor connector, this tank drops directly into place without modification. Whether you're addressing a cracked or leaking tank or performing a routine coolant system refresh, this part restores full cooling system performance and safety.

Installation Notes
Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45–60 min | Tools: Socket set, coolant drain pan, torque wrench
-
Drain coolant. Place drain pan beneath radiator and lower engine (if fitted). Undo radiator drain plug and capture old coolant for safe disposal.
-
Locate the tank. On most models, the expansion tank sits high on the front-right of the engine bay. Disconnect the overflow hose from the radiator neck and the sensor connector from the tank top.
-
Release mounting bracket. The tank is secured by one or two bolts to a plastic or metal bracket. Remove these bolts and carefully lift the old tank clear of the engine bay.
-
Fit new tank. Position the new expansion tank in the same location and orientation as the original. Align the mounting bracket holes and torque bolts to 8–10 Nm. Do not over-tighten; the bracket is plastic.
-
Reconnect sensor. Push the sensor connector onto the new tank's sensor head until it clicks. Ensure the waterproof seal is seated correctly.
-
Reattach overflow hose. Secure the radiator overflow hose to the tank's inlet spigot using a hose clamp (typically 2.5 Nm or hand-tight + ¼ turn).
-
Fit the pressurised cap. Screw the new LR000243 cap onto the tank with a gentle quarter-turn after seating—do not over-torque.
-
Refill and bleed. Close the radiator drain. Refill the cooling system with the correct specification coolant (check your handbook). Run the engine to operating temperature and top up once more. Bleed air pockets by running the engine with the cap loosened (engine off) and the heater set to max.
-
Check for leaks. Inspect the sensor connector, hose clamps, and cap seal under the bonnet. No drips should appear. Clear any fault codes on your OBD scanner related to coolant temperature.
⚠️ Safety Warning: Never open the coolant system or cap when the engine is hot. Pressurised coolant can cause severe scalding. Allow the engine to cool for at least 30 minutes before beginning work. If you are unfamiliar with cooling system service, consult a qualified mechanic.
