3.0 V6 Petrol Coolant Thermostat Housing with Sensor

OEM-spec thermostat housing for precise engine temperature control across all 3.0L V6 Petrol Land Rover applications.

Range Rover L405 Range Rover Sport L494 Discovery 4 & 5 3.0 V6 Petrol Thermostat Housing Integrated Sensor 2013–2017+

Overview

Your Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L494, Discovery, or Velar's cooling system relies on precision temperature management to maintain optimal performance and fuel efficiency. The thermostat housing, home to both the thermostat valve and engine temperature sensor, controls coolant flow and communicates critical data to the ECU. A failing or stuck thermostat causes overheating, poor idle quality, and limp-mode diagnostics.

This is a direct-fit replacement housing with integrated coolant sensor, engineered to OEM specification for all 3.0L V6 Petrol engines across Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery LR4/5, and Range Rover Velar. Manufactured from durable polypropylene composite with precision-molded passages and genuine sensor integration, it restores reliable thermal regulation and eliminates temperature-related fault codes.

Installation is straightforward on a warm engine: drain coolant, remove the old housing, clean mating surfaces, and bolt the new unit into place. Most owners complete the job in under 2 hours. Backed by our 30-day money-back guarantee and 12-month warranty, this part is the smart choice for keeping your Land Rover running cool.

Installation

Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 1.5–2 hours

  1. Park on a level surface and allow the engine to cool for at least 30 minutes. Open the radiator cap to release pressure.
  2. Place a drain pan under the thermostat housing and loosen the drain plug to remove approximately 2–3 liters of coolant. You do not need to drain the entire system.
  3. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector from the top of the old housing by pressing the clip and pulling straight.
  4. Remove the three or four mounting bolts securing the housing to the engine block using a 10mm or 13mm socket. Note the bolt positions for correct reinstallation.
  5. Lift the old housing away from the mating surface. Scrape away any old gasket residue with a plastic scraper and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth.
  6. Position the new thermostat housing onto the mating surface, ensuring the coolant passages and bolt holes align. Install the mounting bolts and tighten to 25–30 Nm (18–22 ft-lbs) in a cross pattern.
  7. Reconnect the coolant temperature sensor connector to the new housing. Push firmly until you hear a click.
  8. Refill the cooling system with OEM-spec coolant (50/50 mix with distilled water). Bleed air by running the engine with the radiator cap off until coolant reaches the neck and no air bubbles appear.
  9. Replace the radiator cap and run the engine for 10 minutes to verify proper operating temperature and sensor communication.
  10. Scan the vehicle with a diagnostic reader to confirm the temperature sensor is recognized and no fault codes are present.
⚠ Critical: Always work on a cold engine. Pressurized hot coolant can cause severe burns. If coolant temperature codes return after installation, verify the sensor connector is fully seated and the wiring harness is not pinched or damaged. Do not operate the vehicle with a stuck thermostat or missing sensor—this will trigger limp mode and can damage the catalytic converter.
