3.2L Petrol Coolant Thermostat Housing with Gasket

OEM-spec replacement thermostat assembly for Land Rover Freelander 2 and Volvo 6-cylinder petrol models – direct drop-in upgrade with factory gasket included.

LR006071 31355151 2008–2015 3.2L Petrol PP Composite Front Mount Direct Replacement

Overview

If you own a 2008+ Freelander 2 with the 3.2L petrol engine, thermostat housing failure is one of those creeping problems that silently degrades coolant flow and engine temperature regulation. A failing unit causes erratic gauge readings, inconsistent cabin heating, and worst case—thermal stress on the block itself.

This is the factory-approved replacement housing (part number LR006071), manufactured to exact OEM specifications. Constructed from durable polypropylene composite, it includes the integrated gasket seal and bolts directly into your existing cooling circuit without modification. No adapters. No workarounds. It simply works.

Compatible across the 3.2L petrol variants for Freelander LR2, Volvo S60, V60, S80, V70, XC60, XC70, and XC90—this is the one assembly you can trust for reliable temperature management and longevity.

Installation Notes

Difficulty: Intermediate | Time: 45–90 minutes

  1. Drain coolant system. Unplug the negative battery terminal and allow the engine to cool completely. Open the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and collect coolant in a drain pan.
  2. Locate the thermostat housing. It sits at the front of the engine block, bolted to the top of the water pump cavity. Disconnect any hose clamps and electrical connectors.
  3. Remove old housing. Unbolt the assembly (typically 2–3 mounting bolts, 13–15 mm). Gently pry and lift away. Discard the old gasket.
  4. Clean mounting surface. Use a soft scraper to remove old gasket residue and debris from the block. Wipe clean with a lint-free cloth.
  5. Install new housing. Position the new assembly with the pre-fitted gasket facing down. Align bolt holes and torque fasteners to 25 Nm (18 ft·lb) in a cross pattern.
  6. Reconnect coolant hoses. Refasten hose clamps. Ensure all connectors are fully seated and locked.
  7. Refill coolant. Pour fresh 50/50 coolant mixture into the reservoir. Run the engine briefly to bleed air pockets. Check for leaks.
  8. Retest temperature gauge. Confirm that coolant temperature stabilizes within 90–105°C under load. Verify cabin heating response.
⚠ Important: Do not reuse the old gasket. Always dispose of drained coolant properly—never pour down drains. If you find corrosion in the cooling lines, flush the entire system with distilled water before installing the new unit.
