Installation
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Time: 45–90 minutes
-
Safety first: Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Allow the engine to cool completely—coolant system pressure at temperature can cause serious burns.
-
Drain coolant: Open the drain plug on the radiator and collect coolant in a clean container. You'll reuse it if it's in good condition.
-
Remove hoses: Disconnect the heater inlet hose from the old pipe, then unclip the temperature sensor connector (push the release tab gently).
-
Unbolt the old pipe: Remove the two or three bolts securing the pipe to the engine block. The pipe may be stuck—apply penetrating oil and let it sit 15 minutes if needed.
-
Install the new pipe: Position the new unit against the engine block, align bolt holes, and torque to 20–25 Nm (15–18 ft-lb). Do not over-tighten; aluminum can strip.
-
Connect sensor: Plug in the temperature sensor connector until it clicks. Verify the clip is fully seated.
-
Attach hose: Reconnect the heater inlet hose. Tighten the hose clamp firmly but not excessively.
-
Refill coolant: Top up the radiator and expansion tank with your drained coolant or fresh 50/50 ethylene glycol mix. Bleed air by opening the heater on high and idling for 3–5 minutes with the radiator cap off.
-
Test: Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and monitor for leaks and proper heater operation. Clear any diagnostic codes if needed with an OBD2 scanner.
⚠ Warning: Never open the radiator cap or remove hoses while the engine is warm. Pressurized coolant will spray and cause severe burns. If you're not confident with coolant work, we recommend professional installation—contact us for a local specialist referral.
