- Ensure the vehicle is stationary, engine off, and the gear selector is in Park (P).
- Locate the plastic cover bearing the gear position indicators (P, R, N, D) around the base of the gear knob.
- Carefully pry away the plastic gear indicator cover using a small flathead screwdriver — work slowly around the perimeter to avoid cracking.
- With the cover removed, the retaining screw for the gear knob assembly will be visible. Unscrew and retain.
- Lift the gear knob assembly clear of the selector shaft and set aside safely.
- Remove the worn or damaged lever button and handball plating sliding handle from the assembly.
- Install the new lever button and handball plating handle, ensuring each component seats firmly and clicks positively into position.
- Reattach the gear knob assembly to the selector shaft and secure with the retaining screw.
- Replace the gear indicator plastic cover, pressing evenly until it clips flush.
- Test gear selector action across all positions before driving.
⚠ Note: Take care when removing the gear indicator plastic cover — it is retained by clips and can crack if excessive force is applied. Work methodically around the perimeter rather than levering from a single point.
