Installation Notes
🔧 Difficulty: Beginner Friendly | ⏱ Estimated Time: 30–45 Minutes | 🛠 Tools Required: Trim removal tool, T20 Torx bit
- Open the Defender's tailgate or rear door to access the inner trim panel covering the rear light assembly on each side.
- Using a trim removal tool, carefully pop the interior trim panel to expose the rear of the light cluster and wiring connectors.
- Disconnect the factory wiring harness connector from the rear of the existing light unit by pressing the release tab and pulling firmly.
- Remove the T20 Torx screws securing the light cluster to the body — typically two to three fixings per side.
- Carefully pull the factory light unit outward from the body aperture and set aside.
- Align the new smoked black rear light unit into the body aperture, ensuring the locating pegs seat correctly before pushing flush.
- Reinsert and tighten the T20 Torx screws to secure the unit firmly — do not overtighten.
- Reconnect the factory wiring harness connector to the new light unit until it clicks securely into place.
- Refit the interior trim panel, pressing around the edges until all clips are fully engaged.
- Repeat for the opposite side, then test all rear light functions — stop, tail, indicators, and reverse — before driving.
